The heart of our life together.
Every Sunday morning at 10am (9 during the summer) we gather together in the sanctuary to praise God, pray, listen, sing, learn, celebrate the sacraments,, and connect with one another. Whether you’ve grown up in a Congregational church, are coming from another tradition, or are coming to the church for the first time, we believe you’ll feel at home here. Want to know more? Check out these FAQ about worship.
Sermons are a part of each Sunday’s service, and are typically delivered by our senior pastor. Pastor Emily aims to preach sermons that makes our faith relevant to daily life. If you’d like to hear for yourself, check out our sermon podcast on iTunes.
Sacraments are also celebrated during Sunday worship. We share Holy Communion, also known as the Lord’s Supper, on the first Sunday of every month. We practice open Communion which means that you do not need to be a member of the church to take part in the sacrament. We also welcome all ages to take Communion. As we say in worship, the Lord’s table is big enough for all of us.
Baptisms are scheduled upon request, and take place during Sunday worship. We baptize all ages, from newborn babies being brought by their parents to adults who have made their way to the church later in life. Baptisms are one of the most joyful occasions in our life together.
We believe that music is essential to worship, and we have an excellent adult choir that sings special selections each week, and also leads the congregation in hymns. Our contemporary music group, Joyful Spirit, plays once a month as well. And our handbells choirs, for both adults and kids, contribute regularly to worship, as do special soloists and other musicians.
Each Sunday’s worship service also includes a children’s lesson, when kids are invited to come forward and hear a message that makes faith relevant to them. The lesson takes place early in the service, and pre-K and elementary children are then invited to go to church school. (They are also welcome to remain with their parents in the sanctuary.) Middle school students also have church school three Sundays of the month, and remain in church on Communion Sundays. Pre-K aged children and infants may also stay in the nursery during worship. You can read more about our church school programs here.
We also hold special worship services throughout the year for Christmas eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter sunrise, and more. We always welcome you to join us as we worship God together.
