Life Together

We strive to live in community and to listen to God’s voice together. Through fellowship groups, opportunities for spiritual growth, and service to one another, we seek to be a church where the gifts of all people are valued and honored. Getting Involved

Fellowship Groups

We believe that connecting with others makes the life of faith more fulfilling. We have a number of fellowship groups that help members to find one another, and connect over shared interests. For families with young children, we host Friday Family Dinners at the church once a month. The church buys dinner, and parents can socialize with one another while their kids play nearby. For empty nesters, our Middle of the Road Group hosts dinners in member’s homes. TOGS, or the Occasional Group, is a monthly meeting of retired women which takes place over weekday breakfast. The Romeos, a group of retired men, meets for coffee and conversation one Thursday a month. Our newest fellowship, for Millennials and Gen Xers, is committed to providing fun events for younger members to socialize and connect. It’s also not unusual for folks to be involved in multiple opportunities, or to propose new ones. We are all about finding new ways to connect.

Music

Music is at the heart of our worship, and we have dedicated singers and musicians who help to lead us. Our choir sings every Sunday during the school year, with rehearsals once a week. They are always ready to welcome new members, regardless of past choir experience. In addition to leading us in the hymns on Sunday, they sing special anthems and offertories each week. The Heritage Ringers are a group of handbell musicians who offer their music several times through the year. They assure new members that so long as you are able to count to four, you too can learn to play the bells. Both the choir and handbells share their music with the larger community during our Christmas Open House each December. Throughout the year we also welcome guest musicians who share their gifts with us during worship.

Bible Study and Book Groups

We strongly believe that our spiritual learning does not end with Sunday school. We encourage all adults to keep learning and growing. We hold a weekly Bible Study over Zoom for all members who wish to attend. We also offer special book groups throughout the year for those who would like a shorter commitment. Recent books have included both spiritual classics as well as contemporary books that speak to current events, such as Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me.

Congregational Care

We do our best to care for one another, especially when times are busy or hard. Many volunteers make up our congregational care ministries. Some are chefs for meal trains that provide dinners for families who have just had a baby, or for someone who has just had surgery. Others write notes or call those who need to know they are being remembered during hard times. Our prayer team is activated by text, and is always glad to pray for anyone who needs it. Finally, our lay visitors make sure that those who cannot come to church in person are not forgotten. They make visits to the homes or nursing facilities of those who would like to have company. Our goal is to create a church community that truly is there when we need one another.

Sunday Mornings

Some of the best chances to get to know others take place on Sunday mornings. Ushers warmly welcome everyone to the church, pass out bulletins, and take up the weekly offering. Our fellowship hour volunteers make sure that the coffee is hot and the cookies plentiful after worship. The Petals make sure the sanctuary looks stunning, especially when filled with Easter lilies or Christmas poinsettias. Nursery volunteers help our nursery director to tend to some really cute babies. Finally, a host of church school teachers work together to help our kids to understand our faith and how to live it out with kindness and respect.

These are just a few of the ways you connect and grow in the church. To find out about what we do outside of our church doors, please keep reading.
